About the CGSS

The Communication Studies Graduate Students Society (CGSS) at Concordia University in Tiohtià:ke/Montréal is a student-elected organization that represents all current MA and PhD students and candidates in the Department of Communication Studies (COMS). The CGSS Executive Board acts as a point of contact for all students as well as a bridge of communication between students and faculty.

The CGSS is run by students, for students. Throughout the academic year, we offer a range of opportunities to gather and connect. Our role is to offer support and guidance, provide a smooth transition into the program for first year students and create a welcoming, inclusive, accessible and enriching community atmosphere for all.

We elect our Executive Board annually and operate according to student-generated bylaws. We are a sub-association of the Graduate Student Association Concordia.

Land Acknowledgement

We would like to acknowledge that our association, as well as our university, is situated on the unceded Indigenous lands of Tiohtià:ke (now known as Montréal). We acknowledge that we-–as PhD students of Concordia—continue to benefit from the colonial and capitalist infrastructures of our institution, and recognize that many of us are uninvited guests in Kanien’kehá:ka territory.

We strive to actionably practice anti-colonialism and anti-racism in all CGSS projects and endeavours. We are anti-ableist, anti-homophobic, anti-transphobic, and anti-classist. We are steadfastly against oppression in all its forms.
